Hi all,
There’s something I need to tell you before book two comes out, as it may influence your decision to read it.
It wouldn’t be fair to say nothing, and for you to be disappointed or put off, so I wanted to mention it beforehand.
You already know that ‘Tapas, Carrot Cake and a Corpse’ is set in the UK, but that I used US spelling and terminology throughout.
I’m over the moon that you liked the book enough to want to read the second – I really am. However, some readers didn’t.
They don’t understand (or like) the fact that I’ve set the book in a UK fishing town, but written it with US spelling and terms.
They have a valid point.
The reason I published the book this way is because a well-meaning editor suggested that the book would have a wider appeal if I changed it to have US spelling and terminology, regardless of the setting.
I must stress that I’m not blaming the editor – she merely put forward a suggestion. It was my decision to go along with it.
That said, I realise now that I made an error in judgement. I’m British, and to write in American English is not a true reflection of who I am (although I love to read books written in American English, regardless of their setting). I should have gone with my gut instinct and left the book as I’d originally written it – In British English.
Anyway, the point of this message is to let you know that I will be continuing with the series in British English, and I truly hope that, in spite of this, you will continue to enjoy reading the Charlotte Denver books, as much as I will enjoy writing them.
I’m so sorry about this, but I wanted to let you know before book two is published in a few days time.
With warm regards,
Sherri
