So, I don’t know if you follow me on Facebook, or in my Readers’ Group, but if you do either, you’ll know that I hurt my back in March and everything came to a grinding halt.
My WIP, which was supposed to be published at the end of March/beginning of April, stalled and at the time of writing, still isn’t finished (although I’m very close now).
Work screeched to a stop, as did regular stuff like going to the supermarket, for a walk, to the beach, walking my dog, etc., etc.
Couldn’t do any of them.
Basically, everything just stopped, because I hurt my back so badly, I couldn’t get into a comfortable position for almost three months.
And the crazy thing is, I didn’t hurt my back because I was bungee jumping, skydiving, doing karate or anything else remotely extreme.
I hurt it because I’d spent too long (between ten and twelve hours a day) sitting in the same position, for too many days, just doing my job.
The result hasn’t just affected my well-being, but my life, my business and my income.
I always know that things could be worse, so I’m not complaining, but this is my cautionary tale – based on first-hand experience – to let you know what can happen if you don’t take a break every now and then. Give your back a rest. Set a timer for every half an hour or hour, and get up and walk around.
Stretch. Stay limbered up. Don’t be like me!
Even now, almost four months later, I still can’t sit for longer than around forty-five minutes at a time but at least I can sit at my desk. I missed my desk. 🙂
Look after yourself.
Hugs.
